FAQ
Quick answers about installation, media safety, smart editing, export, and licensing.
Updated 7/31/2026
Is my media uploaded to the cloud?
Broadcast Cutter’s core editing workflow runs locally. Features that use an online model or cloud service will explain that behavior where they appear.
Does Smart Pre-editing modify my original file?
No. Smart Pre-editing creates suggestions inside the project and never overwrites your original media. You can listen before deciding whether to use each edit.
Why were some pauses not detected?
Background noise, music, overlapping voices, or a very low recording level can affect detection. Adjust the settings and analyze the media again, then handle any remaining segments manually.
What should I check before exporting?
Review edit points, silence at the beginning and end, overall loudness, audio-video sync, and the output location. For important projects, export a short sample before creating the full file.
How do I continue using the app on another computer?
Keep your installer, license information, project files, and original media. Detailed migration and license instructions will be added before the public release.
What if I still need help?
Contact us through the email address on the website. Include your operating system, app version, steps to reproduce the issue, and what you expected to happen. A screenshot or log file can make diagnosis faster.
How is Broadcast Cutter different from Riverside?
Both offer AI-assisted editing, but Riverside is a browser-based tool that depends on network quality and cross-border access. Broadcast Cutter is a local desktop app: your media stays on your computer and runs more reliably under domestic network conditions.
If you mostly record and edit podcasts or spoken-word content in China, Broadcast Cutter’s local workflow and desktop performance are a more stable alternative.
Does the app require an internet connection?
Core editing, waveform analysis, Smart Pre-editing, and Whisper transcription run locally. Only features such as online models, cloud storage, or license verification need a network connection, and those will be clearly labeled.
Which features are available, and which are still in development?
Available now: waveform editing, multi-track editing, Smart Pre-editing, AI rough cut, golden quote extraction, filler-word filtering, MP3 export, Chinese and English UI, dark mode, automatic updates, and licensing.
In development or planned: silence detection, subtitle export, Show Notes, database persistence, cloud large-model support, and advanced long-form editing.
Can I use the app on another computer?
Yes. Licenses are tied to devices. When you switch computers, deactivate the license on the original device, then activate it on the new one.
Will cloud models be supported later?
Yes. The current version prioritizes local models for privacy. Optional cloud large-model services for higher-accuracy transcription and advanced AI analysis will be added later and will require explicit opt-in with separate billing.
